LAZY ART

This product design course asked me to design and construct a chair. Everyday we use them at different times and locations, so the challenges that presented themselves were form, connections, and purpose. I limited myself to one sheet of oak plywood, dowels, and some paint to construct the chair after creating a hypothetical business (concept), I named Lazy Art.

Lazy Art takes the non-functional piece of art or advertisement off the wall or sign, and incorporates it on the surface of the chair. By employing local artists, or simply painting the slate wood yourself, the chair can be customized for a unique purpose, advertisement and location. I choose the Beltline in Atlanta, Georgia as the venue for my prototype. The Belt Line has industrial architecture and often times littered with colorful paint and art. Understanding the site, I had a local artists paint the wood slates with colorful paint in hope to create a functional piece of art that was specific to the Belt Line in this case.
